How to create your own She Shed
Move over man caves – there’s a new room in town, and it’s here to stay! Say hello to ‘She Sheds’ – the equivalent of Man Caves – but for women.
She Sheds are the place where ‘she’ can escape from her busy life. It could be to read a book in peace, sip on some wine in solace or just spend some quality alone time.
Here are some tips on how you can create your own She Shed :
1. Find the right room to convert
If you live in an apartment, your options are pretty limited and you probably already have a space in mind. If you happen to live in a larger home, try and choose a secluded but well lit room. The best spot would obviously be the shed in the garden area.
2. Figure out its purpose
The she shed is supposed to be a quiet place where one can unwind, relax and do something you love. You might want to sit on a comfortable couch and read a book or catch up on your favourite TV series. Once you figure this out, you’ll be able to work on the décor accordingly.
3. Give it a fresh coat of paint
The She Shed needs to look and feel different since you’re trying to break away from your daily routine. We recommend choosing bright and happy colours.
4. Deck it up
Of course you need to do up your She Shed. It doesn’t necessarily need to be fancy. A small bookshelf with your favourite books, a comfortable couch/day bed (with lots of pillows and cushions) and a small music player should more than suffice. If you hit the local flea markets or antique stores, you’re sure to find some interesting stuff for your She Shed. The decorating will be an on-going process though. And over a period of time, we’re sure you’ll build a pretty awesome space for yourself.
5. Add a bit of nature
It could be as simple as keeping a plant in the room or a few pots at the window sill. A touch of nature is always soothing and adds a soft touch to the room.
6. Make it your personal happy space
What puts you in your comfort zone quickly? If it’s a glass of red wine, tuck away a bottle; if it’s a nice comfortable nap, keep a hammock; if it’s music, make a ‘My She Shed’ playlist on your music player – whatever works best for you.
That’s all the tips we have to help you build your personal abode at home. In case you have some inputs of your own, please feel free to share them in the comments below.
